What I would tell my 23 year old applicant self

Don’t apply to 30 schools dummy! You are wasting a lot of cold hard cash! You need to narrow it down and this is how you do it:

  1. Dream big! Apply to Harvard, you know you know you want to! Just click the button.

  2. Pick schools within your league. A little above and below is okay

  3. Know the average scores of the school's students. Look at students' GPA,  DAT, and PAT scores. This will give you a target to aim for.

  4. Where do you want to live? Out of state private schools are good to apply if you are willing to move.

  5. Out of state public schools are tough. State residents get priority. If you are not a resident, it's very difficult to get into an out of state public school.   I recommend to stay away like they are the plague.

  6. Know yourself. Pick schools that inline with your personality and what you need as a student

  7. Give up your the undergraduate rivalries. Keep an open mind. The best decision I ever made was to leave my alma matter (UCLA) to go to the rival USC across town.
